Wife of the Jigawa state governor, Dr. Amina Umar Namadi on Saturday led a high powered campaign against cancer to enlighten the people on the dangers of the disease
The campaign which featured amongst others walk through strategic locations in the state capital, was held under the auspices of her pet project Hamdan Kasiran OVC Women Assistance Foundation in collaboration with with MEDICAID Cancer Foundation Jigawa State chapter.
With the theme “Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters”, the event, which is part of the activities marking the 2025 Cancer Awareness Month had the participation of some renowned Kannywood actors as well wives of some prominent leaders in the state including Maryam, the wife of the Speaker of the State Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin.
Mrs. Namadi, who addressed the event which took place at the State Secretariat of the National Youths Service Corps, (NYSC). She called on women and young girls across the state to give priorities to regular check to detect early disease early and fast treatment.
Participants marched across major streets in the Jigawa State capital to sensitize the public on the dangers of breast cancer and the importance of early diagnosis.
The event also featured a public lecture delivered by health experts who highlighted preventive measures and lifestyle choices that can reduce the risk of breast cancer, which claims thousands of lives globally every year.
Mrs. Namadi emphasized the need for regular medical check-ups, noting that early detection remains the most effective approach to managing breast cancer.
“The Jigawa State Government has upgraded over 180 primary healthcare facilities, alongside several secondary and tertiary centres, to ensure access to quality healthcare for all residents,” she said.
She further assured that the state government would continue to partner with the Federal Government and other stakeholders to expand awareness campaigns and improve access to affordable treatment for breast cancer patients.
Also speaking at the event, a medical expert, Dr. Halima Is’haq, identified hereditary factors, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, and poor diet as major contributors to breast cancer.
Hajia Salma Haruna Wakili spoke on the need for women to seek urgent medical aid as soon as they start noticing any difference in their body system saying that’s the only breast cancer can be detected early enough.
She noted that most women have been languishing in pain as a result of ignorance and lack of seeking early detection and treatment of the disease
