Heirs Insurance Group has called for applications for the maiden edition of the Heirs Insurance Hackathon.
The hackathon is a technology-focused innovation programme aimed at equipping young Nigerians to shape the future of insurance using artificial intelligence and digital solutions.
The hackathon, which is open exclusively to students of universities, polytechnics and other tertiary institutions, is designed to address real-world challenges across the insurance value chain.
Participants are expected to develop solutions spanning customer experience, claims processing, underwriting, distribution, data utilization and operational efficiency.
Registration for the competition closes on February 16, 2026, while winning teams will be announced at the Hackathon Grand Finale scheduled for April.
The organisers say a total prize pool of ₦9 million will be awarded to the top three teams, alongside industry exposure and mentorship opportunities.
The initiative underscores Heirs Insurance Group’s broader commitment to youth empowerment, digital skills development and inclusive innovation. By engaging students directly, the company aims to provide a practical platform for applying emerging technologies to critical financial services challenges, while also nurturing the next generation of insurance and fintech innovators.
The hackathon is being delivered in partnership with Redtech, the digital payment solutions subsidiary of Heirs Holdings. Redtech will provide technical support and participate in the review of submitted solutions, with entries assessed not only for creativity but also for technical feasibility, scalability and real-world impact.
Commenting on the launch, Peace O. Philips, Chief Digital Officer of Heirs Insurance Group, said Africa’s economic future depends on young people having opportunities to apply their ideas and technology skills to practical challenges.
She noted that the hackathon is designed to give students meaningful engagement with the insurance industry while contributing to the development of a more efficient and inclusive financial system.
Entries for the hackathon are being accepted via the Heirs Insurance Group website as the company deepens its push toward digital innovation and financial inclusion.
Heirs Insurance Group, the insurance arm of Heirs Holdings, operates across Nigeria through its general insurance, life assurance and brokerage businesses, and is positioning itself at the forefront of the country’s digital insurance transformation.
