The abandoned Day-old baby

The Jigawa state Police Command, Thursday, confirmed the abandonment of a day-old baby boy.

The baby was reportedly abandoned by yet-to-be-identified mother at the General Hospital Kazaure in the northwest of the state.

Confirming the development, the spokesman of the state Command, DSP Lawan Shisu Adam said the boy was found abandoned at about 10:00 pm on Wednesday.

He added that the boy was handed over to the Community Department of the local government by the Director of Clinical Services of the General Hospital, Kazaure.

He also confirmed that five local female volunteers in the area have offered to breastfeed the child, adding that, the community department of the council has begun the process of screening them.

” Upon completion of the screening, one of them would be considered and would be handed over the child”, the statement said

Meanwhile, he said efforts were being intensified to trace and arrest the fleeing mother of the baby, according to the statement
