After a month of diagnosis of the Power sector, the newly inaugurated Minister of Power, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, has revealed that the challenges of the sector are mountainous and require stage by stage solutions over phased periods of time.
Though, he assured that they were surmountable, but he stressed that the problems would not be resolved within weeks or months.
Tegbe spoke shortly after his inauguration by President Bola Tinubu at the presidential Villa Abuja.
He revealed that in concert with Departments, Agencies and stakeholders within the sector, “we have drawn up a structured power sector reform strategy anchored on execution discipline, clear milestones, and public accountability.”
According to the new Minister of Power, “The challenges that have kept this sector below its potential were decades in the making. They will not be fully reversed in weeks or months.”
Tegbe reiterated his earlier commitment made before the Senate, that he would not promise what he cannot deliver.
However, he assured visible improvement, adding that “The destination is clear, reliable and affordable electricity for every Nigerian home, business, and industry, around the clock. That journey is a long one.”
OPTIMUM TIMES recalls that Tegbe was appointed following the resignation of the former minister of power to pursue his political ambition.
The new Minister of Power, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, born in Ibadan, Oyo State, is a renowned fiscal, economic and institutional reform strategist and stakeholder engagement expert with over 35 years of professional experience across the public and private sectors.
He holds a First Class Degree in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, a Master’s degree in Business Administration (Switzerland) and a Master’s degree in Public Administration (Birmingham).
He worked as a Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG in Africa, where he led transformational initiatives, including the design and implementation of major presidential reforms, the articulation and implementation of a strategy for subnational governments.
Joseph Tegbe was also involved in fiscal policy restructuring at all levels of Government. He has worked with organisations such as the Nigerian Communications Commission, Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Nigeria Revenue Service, Shell, Huawei, General Electric, MTN, and Odu’a Group, among others.
