Residents of Haya community in Gwaram local government area of Jigawa state have called on the Hadejia/Jama’are River Basin Authority (HJRBA) to reconstruct the dam in the community, which collapsed almost a week now as a result of over flows of the water
The residents made the call in a statement by the community leader, Malam Muhammadu Lawal Ibrahim in Dutse.
Ibrahim explained that the dam was constructed by the federal government through the Authority 12 years ago and had improved the economy of the people in the area since its establishment.
According to the statement “the Dam has collapsed as a result of heavy downpour and over flow of the water from the water sources of the Dam and demarcation has collapsed and the water splits out of the Dam”
Ibrahim added that the splits water also flooded and destroyed thousands hectares of farmland farm produce.
The statement further stated that when the people in the area observed the sign of the problem to the collapsing of the Dam they had severally reported their concerns to the authorities to take actions.
He said the dam has changed the social status and improved the economic lives of the people in the area especially on the dry season farming.
The Communities the statement called on the HJRBA without further delay to come and reconstruct the Dam for the next coming dry season farming, “because farmers have lost all their rainy season farm products to flood.”
