Abia Update: Only One Student Of Abia State University Kidnapped – VC

More details are emerging after the reported incident of the kidnap of some students of the Abia State University, Uturu. Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Onyemachi Ogbulu, says only 1 student is involved in the kidnapping incident.

This is contrary to earlier media reports that several students from the University were kidnapped by gunmen on Wednesday night, along the Okigwe-Uturu Road.

Professor Ogbulu also stated that the kidnappers have already contacted the family of the victim and made some undisclosed demands.

The Vice Chancellor assured that the University’s management is putting everything in place to ensure the safety of students, while efforts are being made to rescue the only one kidnapped by gunmen.

Recall that between 7:00 and 8:00pm on Wednesday, some passengers travelling from Okigwe to Uturu were hijacked and taken into the hilly bushes. Two students among the passengers managed to escape from the gunmen while others are still being held at an unknown location.
