Several communities in Taura and Ringim local government areas northwest Jigawa state were on Sunday thrown into wild jubilations following the restoration of the electricity supply to the areas which has eluded them for the upward of 16 years.
Also the community residents have the Taura local government council chairman Shuaibu Hambali Zarga to thank for the remodeling and upgrading the only primary healthcare facility in the area to the status of a general hospital to expand the coverage of the facility.
The developments marked the peak of the visit to the area by the state governor Umar Namadi, during the 26th edition of the state government organized citizens’ engagement forum, where the governor turned on the sword to mark the restoration of power supply to 104 communities in the two local government areas in the state.
The project is fulfillment of the campaign promises of the administration to and reconnect the communities to the national grid after 16 years without electricity in the two local government areas.
Also the governor commissioned a primary healthcare facility in the area which construction has spanned close to 40 years. According to the chairman, in the last 30 years not a single development had been added to the project until the inception of his administration in October last year.
Speaking during the commissioning of the large-scale electrification project, Namadi described the development as a major milestone in his administration’s commitment to improving the lives of citizens across the state.
He expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to deliver on his pledges, noting that the restoration of electricity after more than a decade and a half would significantly transform the affected communities.
According to him, “This administration is committed to transforming the social and economic lives of our people, both in rural and urban areas, through the execution of human and infrastructural development projects in line with our 12-point agenda.”
He stressed that expanding rural and urban electrification remains a core focus of his broader plan to increase energy access, stimulate economic growth, and reduce rural-urban migration.
The governor lauded the Council for its strive to better the conditions of the people at the grassroots, saying that was the essence of the local government as a means of bringing development to the people.

Commissioner for Power and Energy, Engr. Surajo Musa, said the state government had invested heavily in rehabilitating dilapidated power lines, replacing faulty transformers, and upgrading distribution networks to ensure a stable and reliable electricity supply.
He explained that the restored power now comes from the Gagarawa substation, supplying 104 communities, including major towns such as Gujungu, Kwalam, Majiya, Sabon Garin ‘Ya’ya, and Yan Dutse in both Taura and Ringim LGAs.
The 16-year power outage had severely affected livelihoods, crippling small businesses, raising the cost of living, and limiting access to services such as potable water, healthcare, and communication.
Musa urged the benefiting communities to take full ownership of the project and protect the facilities from vandalism to ensure a sustained electricity supply.
For the Council Chairman Shuaibu Hambali Zarga the commissionings were like dream come true, saying that the fact that the inauguration of the projects took place under his watch was long dream fulfilled.
He believed that the benefitting communities would continue to remember his administration and the sterling leadership qualities being provided by the state governor which is aimed at uplifting the living conditions of the rural communities in the area in particular and the state at to large.
A community leader, Alhaji Muhammad Isa Gerawa commented the administration of Namadi for listening to the yearning of the people of the area stressing the need for the people to continue to support the state government under Namadi.
According to him, “We’ve had several administrations in the past, but has served us better and with the fear of God like this administration under HE Umar Namadi.
